India Celebrates 79 Years of Independence
On August 15, 2025, India marked its 79th Independence Day with grand celebrations led by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The occasion commemorates India’s freedom struggle and showcases its progress and aspirations for the future.
Red Fort Ceremony
The event commenced at the iconic Red Fort in Delhi, where the Prime Minister received a Guard of Honour presented by the Delhi Police and Armed Forces. This was followed by the unfurling of the National Flag, accompanied by the singing of the National Anthem and a 21-Gun Salute performed by the 1721 Field Battery using ceremonial 105mm Light Field Guns.
Flying Officer Rashika Sharma assisted PM Modi in hoisting the tricolor, a moment symbolizing national pride. Indian Air Force helicopters then showered flower petals over the flag, adding vibrancy to the ceremony.
Speeches and Patriotic Programs
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, highlighting India’s achievements, challenges, and vision for inclusive growth and technological progress. The speech was followed by a second rendition of the National Anthem and a release of tri-colored balloons, symbolizing unity and hope.
President Murmu also participated in the day’s events, emphasizing the values of unity and national integrity.
Special Guests: Honour for Swachhta Karamcharis
In recognition of their dedication, 50 of Delhi’s best-performing sanitation workers, called Swachhta Karamcharis, were invited as special guests to the ceremony. These workers, selected for their contributions to hygiene and cleanliness, were joined by their families in a gesture that honors grassroots efforts toward a cleaner India.
